We live in a body shape-conscious world where thin is in an fat is out. Losing body fat; however, is not an easy proposition because modern living lends itself to decidedly unhealthy choices in food and activities. How does one lose body fat when everywhere one looks one is assaulted by fatty food, junk food, sodas, sweets, processed food, and the like. It is virtually impossible nowadays to have a meal or snack without ingesting something that is not artificial or unhealthful in one way or another.
And then there is the sedentary lifestyle that many of us have been forced to adopt simply because this is the norm. We take cars to the office, take the elevator upstairs, sit in the office for hours on end, come home to sit some more in front of the boob tube. We get no exercise, and so losing body fat seems to be a losing proposition altogether.

But finding out how to lose body fat is essential if we are to live longer and fuller lives. Studies have shown that our modern lifestyle is killing us, with illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, and heart problems being the leading source of death even though they are completely avoidable. Our goal should be to lose body fat and become healthier and thus live not just longer but fuller.
The simplest way to lose body fat is to cut back on bad fat such as that found in meat and poultry. Replacing these with good fat contained in fish is a significant step towards losing body fat. Avoiding simple sugar carbohydrates like sweets and replacing them with complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, brown rice, beans, and oats will also help trim us down and lose body fat. Sodas are also one of the main culprits in weight gain because they are made mostly of sugar and are thus high in calories without giving any nutritional benefit at all. Stop going for that can of Coke and start drinking plain water or a nutritional shake.
Is Exercise Involved?
But making the right choices in food is just one of the ways to lose body fat. Exercise is another key ingredient because it burns the calories you ingest and keeps them from becoming stored as fat. Exercise also tones your muscles, which in turn makes your body burn even more fat. It is a great cycle to be trapped in.
You can start with simple and easy exercises that you can maintain for at least 30 minutes a day. Pushups, crunches, lunges – these are all part of a health exercise regimen that can help you lose body fat quite quickly. Weight training is also essential, although this would often require enrolling in a gym. Running is an easy and inexpensive activity that can help you burn body fat. If you are serious about learning “how to lose body fat“, you will want to look at home exercise DVD programs to get the sweating rolling and the pounds dropping. The key is getting off your behind and actually doing some moderate to heavy activities that can get your heart pumping. These exercise programs will do just that.
