The era of cloud computing has come upon us, and these days there is a big demand for cheap online backup. Cloud computing has done wonders for the way we work and how we use our computers and gadgets. Time was when we would spend a lot of money on hardware just to have a backup of our files, but these days our backup needs are taken care of by services that provide online backup for free or at least at cheap rates.
The situation is far removed from just a few years ago when most people prefer to have local storage for their files. With internet speeds still slow and sometimes unreliable, most people did not even dare consider placing their files in some “cloud” from which they can be retrieved using any internet-connected device. It just did not make sense to backup one’s important files like documents, photos, music, and videos in the hands of an online service provider that could lose it in the blink of an eye. It was also discouraging to have to download files from the online backup; with internet connection speeds still slow, that was a very tedious process.
Not anymore. Telecommunications have reached a point where internet speeds are fast and cheap enough to warrant the filing of online backup in the cloud. It now takes only seconds to download a file from the online backup, and we can safely move around anywhere in the world with the knowledge that our files can be accessed cheaply wherever we go.
Cheap online backup is also becoming the norm. In fact, most are free to use up to a certain size. Dropbox sets this free space at 2.5 gigabytes, although it is easy to earn more by referring people to it. And then came Apple, which is giving 5 gigabytes to users of its products. In these and other online backup services, the prices are relatively cheap and no longer pose a problem to those who want to take advantage of “cheap online backup“.

The prospects for cheap online backup are enormous. For the first time, people are no longer bound by locality or geography in terms of their files. They also no longer need to carry expensive hardware or even bring these along with them during their trips. All people need now are a computer (or tablet, or even a mobile phone) and an internet connection (even a mobile one) and they can work on their projects anywhere in the world.
And people no longer need to worry about losing their files in case their hard drives fail. With cheap online backup, their files are always safe and secure in the cloud, irrespective of what their computers are in the first place. It could be the most expensive laptop in the world or the cheapest knock-off computer they can buy; any which way, cheap online backup is revolutionizing the age of computers and making it more responsive to our mobile lifestyle.
